City
girl turned hillbilly,
Jan moved to Blairsville
in 1978. She
was born in Atlanta
and spent summers
with country cousins
in Pickens County.
She says, "Mom was
born in Cherry Log
and Dad was born in
Calhoun, Georgia so
I'm a North Georgia
girl, if not really
a local. I love the
ocean, but other than
not having a beach,
there's no place better
than Blairsville,
Georgia."
She
talks about web
design with enthusiasm, "I
believe web design
is a new art form.
My writing, photography,
design, and organizational
skills serve me
well as I create
custom websites. I
think I have found
my niche. "
Janice
Boling recently celebrated
the birth of her 50th
website. She explains,
"When a new website
goes live, it's like
giving birth. Websites
are born, they grow,
mature, and at some
point, they die. When
a site is really outdated,
it's usually best
to bury it and start
over."
Janice
studied web design
at North Georgia Technical
College where she
maintained a perfect
4.0 grade point average.
She credits the school
for giving her a completely
new outlook on life.
She says, "NGTC not
only taught me some
very useful technical
skills, they also
helped me to develop
self-confidence,
responsibility, and
good work ethics."
She graduated
on December 18, 2005
with a Computer Information
Systems - Internet
Specialist diploma.
Janice
also writes for
the North Georgia
News where
she has been employed
as reporter/photographer
since August 18, 2005.
She says, "I
walked in their door
looking for work as
a web designer but
Kenneth hired me to
help Norman. My editor,
Norman Cooper, is
one of the most dedicated
men I have ever
met and he has taken
time to show me the
ropes while letting
me develop my own
style. Norm doesn't
let me go near nganews.com (that's
his baby) but I do
get to work on townscountyherald.net.
Working at the paper
has been an eye-opener.
I have learned a whole
lot about business
practices and how
things work in a small
town. I would
not trade
the experience for
a million dollars!"
Janice
adds, "I have
enjoyed working with
JoAnne and Chuck. This
Farmers Market website
holds a special place
in my heart because
my husband is a farmer
in the Jone's Creek
area of Union County.
We live on a real
farm, not a country
estate, and there
is a big difference.
Tony raises beef cattle,
hay, corn, and lots
of vegetables. I have
my herb garden - some
people even call me
the herb lady since
I write a column about
herbal medicine. It's
posted online at everygreenherb.com."
